Mini Homes & Garden Suites
This section is for buildings intended for habitation (dwelling units).
StrongPrint3D can 3D print the foundation (footings and/or foundation walls) as well as all the exterior and interior walls, and save you money and time in the process.
You end up with a very solid and quiet structure that is immune to problems such as rot, termites, and carpenter ants.
The City of Victoria has a designation called “Garden Suites” where the Intrepid can “print” the ideal unit for your back yard.
Another great thing is that you get incredible freedom of design and can easily include curved walls !
The City of Victoria has defined a “Schedule M Garden Suite” to allow a small dwelling unit for the back yard of your property. Their requirement is that the floor area is 37 m2 (398 ft2) or less and the mid-point roof height is 3.5 m (11.5 ft) or less.
The drawings below show a 3D-printed 1.5 storey house that meets these requirements (roof not shown). It can have a mezzanine/loft, as shown in one of the views. It is designed to meet seismic structural requirements.
The great thing about this is that we can come and print all the walls onto the slab, at the same time laying in the rough electrical and some rough plumbing. If you are a do-it-yourself person, it is straightforward to finish it yourself. If you are not, then a builder can finish it. The 3D-printing takes only about 20 hours.
A backyard office is basically the same as a mini-home, but may have different building permit requirements.
Here are some houses designed specifically for laneway applications such as a standard 33′ wide lot:
